Why A Career Change?


 

If you are reading this then you might asking for confirmation on whether you should change your career or not. If what you want is an answer, no one can give it to you except yourself. You have the power to change your life, shape it so that it fits your needs, your wants, and most of all, so that it makes you happy. Being in the same job for over 10 years will probably get you so worn out that you do not want to take another step into that same working environment. Before you seriously think about changing your career, try having a vacation for a week or two. You might be surprised that may be all you need was a full week’s rest and you’re back to loving your old job. But, if you have done this and still, you want to pursue with finding another career then perhaps it is time for you to do so.

There are many reasons why a lot of people find that they want to change their career after several years of being in the same environment. Others just simply woke up one morning and fell out of love for their jobs. Assess whether you are experiencing the following:

• Frequently late or absent from work.
• Becoming sickly.
• Hating pretty much everything that you do every day.
• Do not have smooth working relationship with your managers.
• Working in your office and having your mind wandering of finding another job.
• Unsatisfied.
• You haven’t been promoted or recognized for a job well done for the last 3-5 years.
• Often out of cash.

If you think you have or are experiencing all of the things written above then you might want to start planning on a career move. People who do not find their work interesting, boring, and unrewarding often find it hard to wake up in the morning to head for work thus being frequently late. Stress, pressure, and dislike for your current job can also trigger psychosomatic health problems. Your body may be showing the signs of stress that even your mind cannot dare to point out. If you go on with these predicaments every day, you will be unhappy, unsatisfied, and unmotivated to do anything. Therefore, instead of being unproductive and unhappy why not look for a career that feels rewarding?

Changing a career is hard. Given that you have to give up years of hard work and letting go of all the emotions attached to your working environment plus the friendship made with your colleagues. But, all it takes is the first step and the rest will follow. Plan you career change carefully. First, determine the career that you want to pursue. Second, learn the skills and the knowledge that you need to have to pursue that career. You might not want to quit your job at this point. You can still work while learning. That way, you will still have income. Third, quit your job and find another that suits you best. Before you quit your job, make sure that you have enough funds or savings to last at least for two months. It will probably take that long to find another job of your choice. Good luck!
