Introduction To Curriculum

The interest of my students with insects is what motivated me to select insect for my curriculum unit. When my students find a bug on the playground they immediately want to shelter, feed, and water it.
They gather around and want to be a part of caring for that insect.

Essential Questions

How do you identify an insect?

How many characteristics of an insect can you name?

Why is a spider not an insect?

How do insects communicate and tell others where the food supplies exist?

Goals and Objectives

• Students will name the three body parts of an insect.

• Students will tell how insects can be helpful to people.

• Students will name where insects live.

• Students will describe how some insects work together in their communities.
