Dong Nguyen Soon To bring FLappy Bird Back on Digital Stores

1st July 2014: Flappy Bird lovers can get delighted over the news that the game, which got grounded on February this year, is coming back as confirmed by its creator Dong Nguyen at the Gamelab conference in Barcelona. In the conference, he talked about the phenomenal success of Flappy Bird and what he's doing next.

Earlier on March also through a tweeter post Nguyen to an extent confirmed the comeback of Flappy Bird. Over tweeter, Nguyen was questioned by someone that weather he will be bringing the game back on digital stores. On this he tweeted “Yes. But not soon.” If rumors are to be believed then this “not soon” time period will stretch to August. Most likely by August 2014, Flappy Birds will be back on digital stores with some changes. 

Talking about the changes, Nguyen revealed in an interview with David Kushner that he will make changes to induce a cool down system in the game, which means after every few rounds, the gamer has to wait a few minutes before the game starts up. As per the Nguyen, this will make the game less addictive. He also talked about introducing new characters, multiplayer interface, new obstacles & environments and a new non-pixel art style in the game.

On 8th February 2014, to everyone surprise, Dong Nguyen, announced the removal of his highly popular game, Flappy Bird, on grounds of his inability to handle the game anymore. Before making the game unavailable on digital stores, Nguyen tweeted “I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now; I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore.” He further tweeted “I can call 'Flappy Bird' is a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it.”

On this alert, overnight the game got downloaded for more than 50 million times. The popularity of flappy bird can further be ascertained from the fact that it raked in $50,000 a day in advertising revenue, as claimed by Dong Nguyen. Moreover, when Nguyen confirmed the news of the game’s demise from App store and Google Play store, he even received death threats from his fans. Despite of such huge popularity of the game and rising to fame, the 28 year old creator of Flappy Bird, did remove the game on early February this year.

After 22 hours of his announcement on social media, Nguyen took down the game from all digital stores. Just before its removal, a quick raise in the downloading of the game was observed. Many other developers tried to fill the vacancy created by launching fake versions of the app, which are still available in Google Play stores or Apple’s App store.

In an interview with Rolling Stone on March 2014, Nguyen, who lives in Hanoi, Vietnam, did give a small hint towards his intensions of bringing the game back. But his open tweet on March and talk at the Gamelab conference in Barcelona confirmed the news that “Flappy Bird” will be back, probably by August.
