I have not written you an email recently so I thought i would keep in touch.  Last weekend my girlfriend and I went hiking at nearby Possum kingdom lake.  The lake is about an hour drive from my apartment and I have been there many times in the past for boy scout and church events.  The lake is very big and has some small rivers running out of it that feed into other lakes.

For our hiking trip we went to the same location that I went to summer camp at when I was younger.  This camping area is very nice and has lots of amenities and other outdoor things to do like archery, boating and swimming.  While these areas are a lot of fun we decided only to explore the hiking trails and nature areas while we were there.

There are about 30 miles of hiking and biking trails that circle almost the entire way around the lake.  Some of them are paved with cement while others are completely off road.  All of the trails have different difficulty ratings and some are even open to bikes and horses.

We decided to start on the easy trail that was 2 miles then meet up with a longer, more difficult trail that would connect us back to the parking lot.  At first the trail was very easy and we had a lot of fun.  We left early in the morning because it gets very hot during the day in summer.  The morning air was cool and the trail was right next to the lake which provided us with a nice breeze.

During the hike was saw a few wild animals but the most exciting was the six deer that we saw.  My girlfriend was hiking ahead of my and saw the first group of deer.  There were 3 of them in a small clearing eating some berries out of a tree.   Once they heard us coming down the trail they all stopped what they were doing and stared at us.   Since there is no hunting at this state park the deer were not afraid of humans at all and seemed interested if we brought them any food.  After taking a few pictures and looking at them from the trail we decided to keep going.  Not too long later we ran across another group of three deer.  We took some more pictures then kept going down the trail to the spot we chose to eat lunch at.

After eating our brown bag lunches we decided that we should turn around and head home.  It was getting hot outside and we were both tired and running low on water.  It took a little bit longer to make it back to our car and once we got inside it was very hot.  We were both so tired from hiking around the park all morning that we went home and slept the rest of the day.
