Decorating With Fabric For the Holidays

With the economy sliding further into a recession more and more people are worried about spending money. With the holidays approaching everyone wants to decorate, but nobody wants to spend a lot of money. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to decorate your home affordably for the holidays. And, the best way to get started is with fabric!

Pillows

A great accent for the holidays is to make throw pillows. You can visit your local fabric store and find a wide selection of fabric in toned down colors that will match your home well and help spruce things up for the holidays. You can also find more theme inspired fabric with Christmas inspired designs and colors. Whatever you are looking for and whatever your style you will be able to find just the fabric for your home decorating needs. The great thing about pillows, too, is they are fast and easy to make, are easy to store, and will look great year after year.

Tablecloths and Runners

Another great option is to make tablecloths and runners for your tables. This will really spruce up your kitchen and transform it for the holidays. Beyond that, a nice tablecloth will protect your table from spills and candle wax, which is more common around the holidays. If you don't want a full tablecloth then just make a runner. This will add a splash of color to your kitchen and/or dining room and ensure that you have a festive atmosphere. If you are really creative, make some napkins while you are at it!

Accent

Fabric can be used as accents throughout your home. Find pretty holiday inspired tapestry to hang on your wall. Or, take some fabric and nestle it along your mantle and then place candles, a nativity scene, or other holiday-inspired items there. You will really create a holiday look that is festive and elegant.

Ornaments

You can adorn your tree with beautiful fabric ornaments, too. They will be unique, one of a kind, and absolutely gorgeous. You will feel a special bond to them for making them and everyone will ask you about them. A good way to make fabric ornaments is to have a base to apply the fabric to or else use lots of starch to make the fabric hard enough to hold up. Either way, your ornaments will be beautiful.
