Osteoporosis starts after you have reached you 30’s. For those of you who don’t know what osteoporosis is, it is the decaying of bones due to calcium deficiency. Furthermore bones start to become porous after a certain age because there is less calcium absorption.

After a certain age the body starts absorbing less calcium. Here are some ways of saving yourself from osteoporosis:

1.       Do not skip breakfast: some people skip breakfast as a solution to their weight loss. But they are actually attracting a lot of problems which they will experience in the future. When you do not have breakfast, your body exerts itself to perform the daily tasks. Due to continuous starvation, your body might become weak and you might experience dementia and osteoporosis at an early stage in life.


2.       Don’t forget to take calcium supplements: calcium of milk is good for kids and their body is able to absorb more calcium from it. But as you grow, milk will not provide you with enough calcium and hence you will have to take calcium supplements to delay your osteoporosis. Visit your nearest doctor and ask him about the amount of calcium in your body and when you should start taking calcium pills.

3.       Maintain the amount of vitamin D in your body: calcium is absorbed only when there is enough vitamin D in your body. So try waking up early to let your body absorb some of the early rays of sun that feel comfortable on your body. If your body lacks vitamin D, it will lack in calcium too as absorption of calcium is mostly dependent on the amount of Vitamin D present in your body.

4.       Exercise regularly: exercise helps in the absorption of vitamins and calcium. Doctors always recommend exercise whenever you are taking a supplement. That is because body movement helps in the movement of blood which helps in the absorption of the supplement.

5.       Reduce your smoking habit: smoking is bad and injurious to health. It not only destroys your lungs but it also reduces the absorption of the supplements that you take. Smoking and alcohol are bad for health and they can jump start your problem of osteoporosis.

6.       Eat foods that are high in calcium: try keeping yogurt in your diet as it is not only good for health but also for bones. Moreover it keeps osteoporosis at bay. Maintain a normal amount of these foods. If you have them in excessive quantity, then they might not have the same nutritional value. Also do not stick to supplements, keep milk and other dairy products in your diet as these have additional nutritional value.

Osteoporosis can be controlled if you take care of it from an early stage. One of the most common signs of calcium deficiency in young age is the development of cracks in nails of hands but mostly in feet. Whenever you notice cracks or even white spots on nails, visit your doctor who will prescribe you a calcium supplement.
