I have been selected to represent the United States in an international volunteer work program this summer, along with thousands of other participants from universities around the world, coordinated by International Student Volunteers, Inc (ISV). You can check them out at www.isvonline.com.
I am committed to a minimum of 120 hours of volunteer work in a community development program in Thailand, and 120 hours of volunteer work in an environmental conservation project in Australia, for a total of two amazing weeks in each country.
My project in Australia will broaden my awareness of environmental issues and give me hands-on, practical experience in conservation work. Our team will be dedicated to working in areas such as endangered species preservation and habitat restoration, while we receive valuable education in sustainable management of resources and responsible use of the natural environment.
In Thailand, my project will focus on cultural awareness and allow me to invest in the lives of disadvantaged people, including children. Our team will live in the local community and gain experience in areas such as teaching English, constructing homes and/or community facilities, and developing recreational programs for children.
I am continuing my studies of Anthropology and Journalism at California State University, Long Beach, and I hope to use this opportunity to gain not only academic credit, but experience in my journey towards a degree.
I am seeking contributions to help cover the expenses of this program.
