Snowmobiling

A snowmobile (known in some places as snow machine, snow sled or the generalized trademark of the Bombardier product, Ski-Doo) is a land vehicle that is commonly propelled by a continuous track or tracks at the rear and steered by skis at the front. Early snowmobiles used rubber tracks, however a modern snowmobile will have a track made of a Kevlar composite.

Snowmobiles are designed to be operated on snow and ice, and require no road or trail. Originally snowmobiles were typically powered by two-stroke gasoline/petrol internal combustion engines. Four-stroke engines are becoming more and more popular in snowmobiles. Noise and air pollution concerns and regulations are a driving factor in this transition. Summertime occupations for snowmobile enthusiasts can also involve drag racing on grass, asphalt strips, or even across water. People who ride them commonly are known as snowmobilers. The three main types of riding are Snow cross/racing, trail riding, and mountain climbing.

Dirtbiking

Motorcycles have been produced in myriad configurations for innumerable purposes. Current motorcycle designs fall along a spectrum -- each configuration offering either specialized advantage or broad capability, and each design offering a specific suitability and riding posture.

Dirt bikes are off-road, lightweight motorcycles that have rugged tires and suspension.  They are built for riding cross-country and through rough terrain such as sand, dirt, mud, and rocks.  However, dirt bikes can also be ridden on the street if they have turn signals, lights, and mirrors plus a speedometer and odometer.

4-wheeling

An all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a vehicle that travels on low pressure tires, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control. As the name implies, it is designed to handle a wider variety of terrain than most other vehicles.

Although it is a street-legal vehicle in some countries, it is not street legal within most states and provinces of Australia, the United States and Canada. By the current ANSI definition, it is intended for use by a single operator, although a change to include 2-seaters (in tandem), is under consideration. The rider sits on and operates these vehicles like a motorcycle, but the extra wheels give more stability at slower speeds. Although typically equipped with three or four wheels, six-wheel models exist for specialized applications. Engine sizes of ATVs currently for sale in the United States, (as of 2008 products), range from 49 to 1,000 cc.
