ABOUT DSKP
The Demokratiko-Sosyalistang Kabataan ng Pilipinas or Democratic Socialist Youth of the Philippines (DSKP) evolved from Sandigan ng Malayang Kabataan or Pillar of the Free Youth (SMK) which was the underground youth arm of the Partido Demokratiko-Sosyalista ng Pilipinas or Philippine Democratic Socialist Party (PDSP). The SMK was established on the 7th of July 1978 under clandestine conditions. It supported the armed unit of the Party under the Sandigan ng Pambansang Pagpapalaya ng Pilipinas (Hukbong Sandigan) or Philippine National Liberation Army (Sandigan Army) against the fascist Marcos dictatorship.

SMK played a crucial role in various mass actions and operations that contributed to the downfall of the Marcos dictatorship. The February 1986 EDSA people power revolution provided the democratic space which led to the decision of the National Caucus on May 23, 1986 to work openly and legally as well as expand and consolidate freely its membership.

Since the National Caucus of 1986, SMK was renamed as DSKP to wage the Democratic Socialist struggle

The DSKP flag is red. In the middle of the red field is a golden upright equilateral triangle. Inside the triangle is a “tambuli” and letters SMK written in the old Filipino alphabet.

The red color signifies revolutionary valor in the struggle for national liberation;

The golden triangle represents the revolutionary triple alliance of peasants, workers, and small bourgeoisie;

The “tambuli” (carabao horn) symbolizes the call for unity of the Filipino masses for the advancement of the Filipino social democratic revolution; and

Letters SMK in old Filipino alphabet symbolizes DSKP’s nationalism. It also represents the historical continuity of DSKP as predecessor of the Sandigan ng Malayang Kabataan, the youth arm of Partido Demokratiko-Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (Philippine Democratic-Socialist Party).

WHAT'S NEW
