Where I've Been

I was born and raised in South Glens Falls, NY.  While I was a Senior at SUNY in Oneonta, my parents moved to York, PA.  I relocated to York to be near them and the teaching opportunities were more promising in this area.

My Life as an Educator

I have been a Family and Consumer Science teacher for 32 years.  I started at YorkCity as a long term substitute and never left.  I spent the first 12 years at the high school and the next 20 years at the middle school.  I prefer the middle school students because I get all the students.  I find it challenging to teach life skills, autistic, hearing impaired and gifted students. This age group brings lots of energy to the classroom.  My favorite units to teach were foods and sewing, although that is not all FACS is.

Maybe you are wondering why a FACS teacher is doing a Web quest for Math.  Last year my district faced major budget problems.  They eliminated the FACS program.  I was able to take an educational sabbatical and hope to return as a math teacher next year.

When I'm Not Working...

My favorite thing to do is play with my two granddaughters.  I make sure we have a weekly family dinner to help foster strong family ties.  I also enjoy sewing, baking, reading and Sudoku.  I am known for my quilting.  I belong to the local quilt guild, am starting a new job as a quilt instructor and enjoy going to quilt shows.
