There are many different types of drugs  out  there in the world both used illegally and legally ,not all drugs are bad there are legal drugs which are pain killers to get rid of your head ache unfortunately they do get used inappropriately ,but there is also illicit(illegal) drugs such as cannabis and LSD which.

 

 

Recent Australian statistics show that there is a large amount of teens using illicit drugs from the age of 14 to late twenty’s and there are also a number of hospitalisations due to drug abuse.

 

 

In 2004,38% of Australians aged 14 years and over had used an illicit drug in their lifetime and 15% in the last 12 months.

 

 .marijuana/cannabis was the most common illicit drug used 934% had used in their lifetime.

 

In 2004,9% of Australian’s aged 14 and over had used methamphetamine in their lifetime and 3% in the last 12 months.

Drugs are used for many different reasons. Teenagers mainly use drugs because they are or have been affected by something.

 

Here are some reasons as to why teenagers use drugs.

 

·         Dealing with sexual abuse.

 

·         Trying to escape from a traumatic experience.

 

·         Loss of a loved one.

 

·         Peer pressure.

 

·         Experimenting

 

·         Low self-esteem

 

·         Family influences

 

·         Depression

 

·         Wanting to fit into a particular group.

 

·         Psychological or physical pain.

 

Alternative options should be considered to detract your mind from thinking about drugs. These options could really help you a lot.

 

·         Take up a hobby

 

·         Do some volunteer work

 

·         Go for a bike ride/walk/jog

 

·         Draw or paint

 

·         Listen to music

 

·         Get a job

 

·         play some sport

 

Consequences

 

The consequences of taking drugs don’t only affect you they also affect the people in it and around.

 

Consequences on the individual

 

·         personal health(emotional, physical, mental and social)

 

·         violent behaviour

 

·         Could lead to unwanted sex which could then result in to un wanted pregnancy or you could catch and STI.

 

·         Performance and grades will suffer.

 

·         Attendance will drop

 

·         bad reputation

 

Legal & financial consequences

 

·         arrested for possession of drugs

 

·         police involvement

 

·         criminal record( may affect you with passport into other countries)

 

·         may put you in debt

 

Consequences on friends &family

 

·         broken up family

 

·         divorce

 

·         bad reputation for you family and friends

 

·         loss of trust and reliability

 

·         conflict with family and friends

 

·         disappointment

 

·         could make enemies with the people who use to be your friends

 

·         destroy relationships

 

Consequences on the community

 

·         Bad reputation on the are

·         Rising the number of drug use in your community
