Sexual harassment is, in short, unwanted sexual advances or visual, verbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.

Sexual harassment is prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

Your employer should take the following steps to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace: develop a written policy outlining what is considered harassment and consequences of violating the policy (and the law!); provide guidance on how to report incidents; investigate claims promptly; distribute relevant written material; and provide ongoing training. There are two forms of sexual harassment: quid pro quo and hostile environment. Quid pro quo is when an employee is forced to submit to unwanted or unwelcome advances or attention to get or keep their job, even if this is "just understood" and not explicitly stated. A hostile environment occurs when the harassment itself is intended to or does interfere with a person's work or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment, whether or not there is any other unfavorable job action.
