In 1966 the South-West Africa People’s Organization
launched a war that promised independence to all people living in the southwest
corner of Africa. After twenty-two
years, one UN Resolution and lengthy negotiations, hostilities finally ceased.
In 1989 South Africa began transitioning administrative control of
the area to popularly elected President Sam Nujoma and his administration.
On March 21, 1990, independence finally arrived in
