Minnesota State Flag

Since Minnesota’s inception into the Union on May 11th, 1858 Minnesotan’s have had a love for sports. In the early days sports revolved around the main industry at the time lumbering. Today Minnesota has professional teams in all 4 major sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL). Although there have been times when Minnesota has lost its sports teams with the North Stars going to Dallas, TX and the Lakers going to L.A. the teams have always come back.

Minnesota is known as “Minnesota Nice” but what most people don’t realize is that Minnesota is a very competitive state as well. We field more Olympians per capita than most other states we also have more golfers per capita than any state in the union even though you can’t golf in Minnesota four months out of the year.

Minnesota has many professional sports teams besides those in the 4 major sports markets. Including a WNBA team (Minnesota Lynx), a Lacrosse team (Minnesota Swarm), two soccer teams (Minnesota Thunder (Men), Minnesota Lightning (Women)), and three roller derby teams (Roller Girls (Women), North Star Girls (Women), T.C. Terrors (Men)). Minnesota is proud of its sports and we are often credited with having the loudest fans anywhere.
