As the world is trying to reduce energy consumption, hence all electrical appliances are being made with a goal to reduce the energy consumption as well. This means that the new brand of washing machine uses less energy than your previous model, and will thus end up saving you money. However, many models, to reduce energy consumption, use lower temperature of water, which means your clothes are not washed well. Here are some aspects to look at when buying the best washing machines and the best models.

The top brands in the market are GE, Kenmore (Sears), Maytag, and   Whirlpool Cabrio . These are the top names when you look at sales numbers. Other good brands are Frigidaire (Electrolux), Hotpoint (GE), and Admiral Amana or Roper (Whirlpool Cabrio).

Regular top loading machines: This is the least impressive kind of machine in the market. These machines require you to fill the tub with water and then agitate the clothes and it also uses the most water. Since they need to move the clothes around to guarantee cleaning, they hold around twelve to sixteen pounds which is much less than the large front loading machines or the top loaders that don't have agitators. However, it is easier to add clothes to the wash in the middle of the cycle, and also these are lower in price than the other models.

High efficiency top loading machines: In these, discs known as wash plates are used to lift and tumble the clothes. They hold more clothes than the other models, and they also perform better. These types of machines are filled partially with water and then spin at a very fast speed to clean the clothes. However, this high speed also has the by product of reducing drying time as well as energy consumption, although it does leave clothes more tangled and wrinkled.

Front loading machines: These lift the clothes and drop them from the top of the tub to the water below to wash them. Since they are also only filled partially with water, they save that resource and have added efficiency over the regular top loading machines. They can take about twelve to twenty pounds of laundry at a time. These are the best kind of machines available, and don't necessarily cost more than the best high efficiency top loaders. They also save space since you can stack a dryer over them or another washer over them.

Space saving   washers   and dryers: These compact models have a size of about twenty four inches or less as compared to the twenty seven inches regular machines. The washers can take a load from eight to twelve pounds, but the driers can only take half the load of regular driers. Some of these models can be stored in a closet and rolled out when they need to be used.
