Scrapbook

I remember my father telling me that one day in the not too distant future, we would all be carrying computers in our pockets and brief cases. Those were the days when we still had to get up to change the boob-tube channel, and what we thought of a 'mobile phone' wouldn't have fit into Paul Bunyan's pocket. Turns out he was right, imagine my surprise!

I remember my youthful impressions of my father as a man who's primary focus was 'other-people-ish': leading the church youth group, participating in a renowned Public Speaking organization, contributing his time and skills to various political campaigns, and serving two terms himself as an Alderman. And then the shift.

In later years, he became something of a recluse, eschewing community activities and social engagements and devoting himself to a love-affair with computers and the study of computer languages. And yet, the documenting of our family history remained his pet project. With this, my first attempting at website building, I hope to come one step closer to fulfilling my father's wish that his "Bell Family Archive Project" be one day posted to the web. Wish I'd paid better attention to all those computer lessons he tried to teach me!

“To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts. Every man is tasked to make his life, even in its detail, worthy of the contemplation of his most elevated and critical hour.” — Thoreau
