Welcome Members of the Bellevue South Stake of the LDS Church,

My name is David Akrish, husband of Teah Akrish, member of the Cougar Mt Ward. After a successful, initial trial launching of our self-defense class to just the Cougar Mountain Ward, we have been given the go ahead to re-start and extend the training to the remaining 9 wards in the stake. At this point the class will fall on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Bellevue South Stake Center.

Teah and I will be teaching an on-going, advanced self-defense class based on close quarter combat found specifically within the Filipino Martial Arts. It is a long-term class which is necessary to build your skills into a secondary nature ability. Taking the lessons home and having personal, daily training sessions is highly recommendedI cannot overly stress that this is an adult level class for both women and men. Street Safe Self Defense is a real-world style of training based on close quarter combat using Filipino Weapon Training [mainly the sticks] as our base core.

Based on the level of responsibility required to both learn and not misuse this self-defense system due to the advanced nature of its content, my initial idea was for this to be an adult only class. After speaking to Teah and different ward council members, I have decided to extend the class to the youth, starting at 14 years of age, as long as their is a ratio of one adult parent [or an adult guardian 16 or over] per one teen who will directly team, participate and take full responsibility for that teen. 16 years and older is considered an adult. 80% of the class will be two-person, weapon, interaction training drills which will require 100% mindfulness and attention to detail for obvious reasons.

If you wish to participate you must read all of the text and view the video links and purchase your own pair of training sticks [please see the right column for where and what to purchase] to participate before your first class.

Each student must read and abide by the Proper Conduct Curriculum, have their own safety glasses and training sticks for each class in order to participate in the partner training drills. Without these necessary tools you will not be able to train, no exceptions.

Please take the time to read all the information, know the required equipment and watch the linked videos on this website before attending your first class. It is your responsibility to know the rules and laws of this state in regards to carrying a weapon and the use of deadly force. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me immediately.
