Interventional Pain Management Clinic in NYC (NY) was established to help
patients with various stages and types of complex, acute, and chronic pain,
such as failed back syndrome, facet joint arthralgia, complex regional pain
syndrome, peripheral nerve injury, myofascial pain, nerve root injury, cervical
pain, lumbar pain, radicular pain syndrome, occipital neuralgic headache,
neuropathic pain, trigeminal neuralgia, disc herniation as the most likely
reason for lower back pain, post laminectomy syndrome, spinal stenosis and post
herpetic neuralgia. We are also able to provide treatment for patients who have
cancer, or those who are suffering from post-injury or surgery.
Caudal steroid injection. This pain
management procedure is used to relieve low back, radiating leg pain and
coccydynia. The steroids can reduce the swelling and inflammation caused by
stenosis, radiculopathy, sciatica and herniated discs.
Local anesthetic is used to numb the skin and tissue down to the surface of sacral hiatus. After needle is carefully placed in the area of 1-2 cm a contrast solution is used to help physician to see painful areas using fluoroscope. Then a mixture of anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medicine is injected into epidural space, bathing the painful area in medication. The needle is removed and a small bandage is used to cover the tiny surface wound.
Most patients have significant relief after one or two caudal steroid injections but it might be necessary to repeat the procedure several times to get full benefit from medication.
