My Career Goals

My Story

I’m a college student who is majoring in Music Business and Creative production. In this field of work I would want to become a producer or sound board engineer. I’m a musician with a passion for music and the business side of it. I want to become successful in the field that I have so much passion for. This is a hard yet profitable career choice, from the perks of working with other famous artists to being able to get my music out there and the possibilities are almost endless. Sadly though it is a hard road to walk, but it is possible for someone to get themselves into the music business with the amount of drive they have to accomplish what they want to achieve. I believe that this career is the right choice for me and I will not stop until I reach my goal.

Cons

In this field of work is a hard and not an easy career to get into. There is a lot of work that goes into finding a studio to intern in and in this industry who you know is what opens the door to your career sometimes. The industry is mainly controlled by the mainstream media and major record lables out to make money even if you dont. Contracts are what the industry uses to make their money and to get artists to sign to them and in some cases artists will get screwed over by their own lable due to not reading into the contract and negotiating an agreement that will protect the artists' intrest. This is not a forgiving industry, with record company exects out to make as much profit as possible without thinking of how this will affect the artist's credibility and sometimes not following the agreement that they agreed to on the written contract. Even though the industry has been a corrupt industry there are artists that have made independent lables and it is affecting the major record lable's hold on the industry.

Pros

The industry, even though it is a hard industry to get into, it is a successful career choice once you have made a name for yourself. Having a good ear for music and also knowing how to use an instrument will help give you an advantage in making it in the music industry. Most musicians that see how the industry is going tend to try at working on music and recording themselves or try recording at a studio so that they can distribute their music themselves without having to go through the hassle to find a distributer that will want to distribute their music. Being in a label is what many musicians and up in coming producers/ engineers hope to accomplish because of the way that the label will help you record, distribute and even market your music while paying you for the sales of CD's and also how many times you song gets played on the radio. For producers/ engineers working in a label will give you the tools that will help you gain success in the music field by recording artists that will hopefully one day reach top ten on the billboard charts and will help get you name out there for other artists to record with you. This is what i hope to accomplish when I am done with college.

The industry has been prosperous and still is with more and more artists coming out looking forward to a future in music. I’m hoping that I will be part of the music industry within the next 5-10 years. I will work towards my goal with my hard work ethic and my enthusiasm in trying to make it successful in the music industry. With my knowledge of music and my determination to make it big will hope to serve me well in my search to get my name out there in the recording and music industry.
