Margaret “Mickey”
Beall Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Margaret “Mickey” Beall took the Oath
of Office with the Kirtland Police Department on June 8, 1979. Mickey was one of the first female police
officers in Lake County and the first for the Kirtland Police Department.
During her 24 years in office, Mickey
became deeply involved in the community.
She spent countless hours talking to citizens and helping elderly people
with household tasks. Each Christmas,
she baked breads and delivered them to senior citizens in the community. Not
only did she create the Safety Town program for Kirtland but each summer for 28
years she volunteered her time there teaching children about safety.
Mickey was a pioneer in community
policing decades before it was recognized as a cornerstone of police work.
Mickey passed away from cancer on March
3rd, 2007, but her genuine warmth and concern for the citizens of Kirtland will
never be forgotten. She will forever be
remembered as a valued and respected member of the Kirtland Police Department
family.
In April 2009, the Margaret “Mickey”
Beall Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by friends and family of
Mickey’s. We’re asking that you join us in remembering and honoring Mickey by considering
a tax deductible donation to the Fund which will in turn help future
generations of students at Lakeland Community College enter public service
careers. Please feel free to contact Bob
