The Apache Indians first came about in the 17th century.  Since then the Apache Indians have gained their reputation as a powerful group because of their history with opposing battles with the Spaniards and Mexicans. 


The Apache Indians is a term that is now used for a collective group of Indians that occupy the Southwest of the United States of America. The Apache groups live in Texas, Oklahoma, and on reservations in Arizona and New Mexico that are under their control. today there is a approximately 30,000 Apache Indians living in the 13 different tribes spread out over the US. While most Apache tribes speak English, they also speak their language that has words full of many vowels, a lot that are different than our language today.


The Apache Indians live in a matrilocal residence. The families live in an extended family unit. Because the Apache live in a matrilocal unit, these families include a husband and wife, their unmarried children, their married daughters, their married daughters husbands and the children they have together, if any.


When Apache warriors pick their names, they often come from a well known character or something very personal to them.
