What should you know about Bird Deterrents?
Bird controls are methods
implemented to deter away pest birds which are potentially harmful to crops or
properties. Even though pest birds are biological control agents, Bird control
is essential because these birds which are untreated and of a poor health
condition can spread communicable diseases through their excreta. Bird droppings
can also cause serious damage to expensive equipment. Bird deterrents are very commonly used
by the aviation department to keep the birds away during takeoff as well as
landing. Methods of bird control include bird repellents, bird spikes,
bird-scarer (scarecrow), bird nettings, sonic devices, trained birds of prey
(falcons/vultures) etc. 
Techniques vary with scenarios
There are certain things concerning the
use of bird deterrents that one must know before he/she uses it. Even though
different techniques are available, all the techniques may not be effective in
all the conditions or can be dangerous if used without proper knowledge and
precaution.
For example, Bird control spikes or
anti-roosting spikes should be used very carefully as the sharp spikes can
invite unpredictable accidents. It can be used to deter the pest away from
roofing but can’t be applied to scatter the birds away from the fields. Bird
nettings are used in building protection, mining and by farmers to avert the
pest birds but can’t be used on the roofing of the house.
