Why a day labor center needed !

To serve our daily life we have to hire day labor in different purpose. But some time it appears very costly to us. Someone think hiring labor from day laborer center causes extra cost because they charge 15% or 20% commission. But we can think the other side. A day laborer center benefits us because we can hire through an established system that matches needs with skills. Also, besides employment opportunities, these centers tend to provide a banquet of helpful services to the laborers and their families--ESL teaching, skills training, legal help, and social services.

Best thing about to hire a day laborer or two for our remodeling projects is that we cut out the contractor, who can charge 15% to 20% commission. In essence, we are becoming the contractor. With a call to the day labor center, we will have workers at our house tomorrow. While cutting out the contractor's commission is great, but I think cutting out the contractor's services is not so great. Contractors provide valuable services taking their commissions, one of which is handling workers. It is a private arrangement between we and the laborer; the day labor center merely connects the two of us and steps out of the picture. Some controls are in place, though. For example, if we have a day laborer who is not performing well, we can easily switch out that worker for another one, no questions asked.

Your day laborers can handle many dirty and unpleasant tasks, such as moving dirt, sanding drywall, or demolishing walls etc. But hiring a day laborer is no excuse for making them do dangerous tasks like removing asbestos. Just as with any other employer, we are subject to labor laws concerning health and safety. Wearer liable for workplace injuries are suffered by day laborers. We should check with our homeowners insurance to see if we are covered and how much coverage we have. Finally, it is up to us to check on documentation of the workers. The centers usually do not do this.

While we should assume entry level skills, the chances are good that the pool of day laborers will include those who have more specialized skills, such as hardwood floor installation, fine carpentry, or carpet installation or other works. The day labor center will do their best to try to find workers who have those specialized skills.
