The purpose of this site is to change your perspective on what Catholicism is and what it means to be Catholic. In the coming months I will not only argue that Catholics are a people in their own right with a common experience but that Catholics have no need to listen to what the Pope says, much less consider him the vicar of Christ on Earth.

It is my conviction that religions and spiritual traditions must adapt to the changes society goes through and that Roman Catholicism remains a stagnant religion despite the reforms of Vatican II. Spirituality should be an open activity in which everyone respects each others beliefs. Instead, Roman Catholicism forces its adherents to believe certain things. Roman Catholicism has become more about rigid doctrines then about contemplation and openness, what spirituality is supposed to be about. It is time for Catholics to discard the superstitions and backward dogma of the Roman Church and embark on a promising spiritual journey.

You may be thinking, why bother being Catholic then?  The answer is because it is our experience. Going to church, recieving the communion, going to Catholic school, giving up things for lent, celebrating Easter, all of these things have shaped us and if we denied them we would be denying ourselves.

So what is it I'm advocating? Atheist Catholicism? No. Progressive Catholicism in which belief in God is considered a personal issue and community, experience, spirituality and social justice is stressed.
