Electric Shavers VS. Razor Blades

The debate over electric shavers vs. razor blades is very common. People are very often found arguing about merits of electric shavers and the razor blades. The shaving experience usually depends upon the individual itself. An individual adopts shaving habits that suit him and lie within his comfort zone.

ELECTRIC SHAVERS:

Shaving is an everyday activity and the most common equipment used are electric shavers and razor blades. An electric shaver provides a quicker shave. When using an electric shaver, shaving cream or gel is not required. This makes it more economical in the end. Although, the initial purchasing price is high but the user does not have to replace the blades on regular basis. It also lasts for several years. While using electric shaver, the cut hair do not fall everywhere, which makes the shaving experience more hygienic. An electric shaver rolls the hair upwards before cutting them; therefore, the user does not have to go over the same area several times.

The electric shaver cannot be used in shower, as they are not waterproof. However, expensive models of this equipment maybe water proof. The batteries are another important issue as they would wear out in some time and would need to be replaced. The batteries may wear out during the shave. Electric shavers do not provide a very close shave, thus a smooth finish is compromised. This equipment is also very loud.

Two types of electric shavers are available in the market, which are the rotary and foil types. The rotary electric shaver has two to three cutting blades, which are circular in shape. Each blade can independently work over facial features while the foil electric shavers have a rectangular bar covered by a foil metal. The hair whiskers slide into the gap where the cutter cuts them off.

RAZOR BLADES:

When one uses a razor blade, accessories like shaving gel is required. Moreover, the blades need to be replaced on regular basis as they begin to rust after two or three shaves. It is a more time consuming way of shaving and the person needs to be very cautious while shaving to avoid any cuts or rashes. Replacement of blades increases the cost, thus making razor blades less economical.

But, comparatively, a razor blade provides a closer shave than an electric shaver. The razor blade keeps the facial growths off for a longer period of time. Moreover, the sharp blade also scrapes off the dead skin from the face which leaves the face cleaner and fresher adding to the smoothness of face. The dual edged razors are suitable for men who are prone to ingrown hair.

The electric shaver is cheaper in the long run and is more versatile, but a razor blade provides a long lasting and a closer shave.

The electric shaver may cause irritation to individuals with sensitive skin whereas, razor blade, if used carefully, does not irritate the skin.
