I’ve always wanted to be a cosmetic salesman, I’ve dreamed of having a shop filled with shampoos, creams and everything that will make your skin shine and glow at its very best. I didn’t have much experience in sales when I started but I was so enthusiastic about anything cosmetic and good for the skin I took a job cleaning floors at the biggest beauty and personal store I could find. I pretty much stayed doing exactly that for a few months, until one day I was caught staring at the body butter isle.

A woman who was shopping seemed slightly concerned that this young man who was carrying a broom was lost in a trance like state but she carrying on. My boss however didn’t take quite the same attitude. “Are you being payed to clean or to day dream?” his sharp words pierced through my thoughts like an addict’s needle.

“To clean of course.” I said, my face turning a pronounced shade of scarlet. My mop started slipping out of my hand as I hastily worked to get the floor shining as I wished my skin would. My boss was still hovering over me but his expression was changing slightly. “Let me ask you a question, what were you staring at that whole time?”

My first impulse was to say nothing and continue working, hoping he would shortly forget the incident. Before I knew what I was doing my mouth had run away from my brain. “sir, there is nothing in the world I care about more than soap. If there was one thing I could do with my life it would be to sell it and make everyone cleaner and healthier!”

I could tell I had shattered his previous perception on what and who I was. Within twenty four hours I was on the sales floor during prime hours training for what I had always wanted.
