HOW TO GET RID OF HEAT RASH
Heat rash most commonly referred to as prickly heat is caused by the blockage of sweat glands which traps sweat below the surface of the skin. As a result the sweat ducts swell up looking like small red dots which itch or seem to prick hence, the name prickly heat.
How to get rid of heat rash:
Heat rash is seen in babies and adults. Since it is caused by blocking of sweat glands the best way to prevent it is to –
a)
Stay away from heat and
physical activity :
No heat necessarily means no sweating. Staying in a cool
environment like an air conditioned room not only cools down the body and
prevents further sweating but also helps the existing sweat to evaporate.
Physical activity such as exercising leads to sweating and should therefore be avoided.
b)
Wear clothes your skin can
breathe in:
Tight fitting clothes and fabrics which are less breathable
are to be avoided as they do not allow skin to breathe. Sweat cannot evaporate
and gets trapped in causing a rash. Loose cotton clothing allows sweat to
evaporate and hence prevents worsening of the rash.
c) Bathing:
Bathing not only cools down the skin but also cleans it of
any dirt or bacteria. The affected area must be washed frequently and kept
clean. An infected rash is something no one wants. After washing, the area must
be dried. Rubbing with a towel will only cause more irritation. The area must
either be dabbed with a towel or allowed to air dry.
d)
Fresh air :
Expose the rash as much as possible to allow the affected area access to fresh air.
