On a recent trip to Canada I tried to call my parents in the United States only to find that my cellular company had control of the cell phone I pay for like clock work every month. I was unaware that the cell phone company had my phone locked so I can only place certain calls.
I was able to speak with one of their representatives and they told me that I could place the call but proceeded to tell me about the high costs and several other things. Well, to make a long story short, they told me how to put the call through and were very helpful.
A few months go by and I am back in the good ole USA when I get my monthly cell phone bill. Well, it turns out the call to their number was not free from Canada and the call I made to my parents was not cheap either. All of these calls costs were passed on to my via my monthly phone bill.
When I get talking to my best friend Tony he tells me that if I had unlocked the phone before going to Canada I could have placed the calls with no cost. It turns out that unlocking my phone is pretty easy to do and will save me money and stress. It appears that you simply get a cell phone unlock code
that plugs in to the cell phone. Next thing you know the codes unlock the phone and I am able to place calls regardless of who my cell phone company is.
I am going to Mexico and Europe later this year as well as back to Canada to visit some friends. This time when I go I will take my unlocked phone with me and avoid all of those high priced cell phone calls. I guess that the reason more people do not unlock their phones is because they don't know how or because they did not know this option even existed. I am happy that I took the time to research it more because it is well worth the time to unlock the phone.
