Keep your skin glowing.


The skin is one of the first places where the ageing process shows itself. From dry skin to wrinkles to

sun damage, there are many factors which can remove the glow from your face. Healthy looking skin

leads to a healthy looking body; so how easy is it to achieve? There are several ways in which skin

can be protected – and this is key. Preventing the damage in the first place is far better than trying

to cure it afterwards.

1. Suncream. Over 90% of wrinkles stem from sun exposure. Even if you don’t live abroad in a

blazing hot country, don’t think that the suncream advice doesn’t include you. Be aware of

the damaging, ultra-violet (UV) rays and they are at their most dangerous. Summer is

obviously a peak time but don’t be fooled into thinking that cloud cover will protect you. It

won’t. Those rays go straight through easily – we just don’t feel them.

2. Clean your make-up brushes. Women tend to use these every single day to apply products

to their faces, one of the most delicate areas of skin on the body. However, 72% of women

never wash their brushes, leading them to collect dirt and bacteria. This then leads to

unsightly spots. So devise a routine whereby you regularly clean your brushes to keep them,

and your skin, in peak condition.

3. Mixed nuts. Adding these to your diet can increase skin elasticity and decrease your chance

of skin cancer. This is due to the amount of selenium found in nuts. The high quality oils and

fatty acids repair and rejuvenate our skin. Just a handful per day will make a difference.

4. Get plenty of sleep. It’s true, it’s called ‘beauty sleep’ for a reason. Sleep deprivation leads

to poor circulation – hence under eye bags and a washed out look if you’re only managing a

few hours sleep a night. Night time is the best time to rejuvenate your skin, so take the

opportunity to cover it in a cream rich in vitamins and minerals.

5. A drink? To the great joy of the wine-drinking population, a glass of red wine per day has

proven medical benefits. The magic ingredient is called resveratrol; this contains

antioxidants and polyphenols which prevent lines, wrinkles and sagging. In many cases,

resveratrol is a more powerful antioxidant than vitamin C.

6. And lastly, remember your neck and chest. There’s a temptation to concentrate solely on

facial skin, but paying attention to the neck and chest is just as important. The neck is where

the first signs of ageing appear and it’s important to treat that skin as carefully as the skin on

your face. Likewise with the chest area.
