--As with any gun, check to see if the gun is loaded or not the moment it touches your hands. Even if you think you had it secure since the last time you used it, it's better to be safe than sorry. --Lock the bolt back, drop the magazine out, and then check the chamber to ensure it is empty. You can then send the chamber forward and dry-fire the AR-15 to make sure it is in a safe mode.

--There are two separate safeties: one on each side of the weapon. When not in use, make certain that both safeties are in their "safe" positions.

-- Once you are done with your rifle, the safest measure you can take is to disassemble it fully before storing the parts in a locked safe.

--Never leave your gun out in the open in your home, even if you don't have small children. Most home invasion burglars are seeking money, small electronics and guns. Your AR-15 will be the first thing they'll grab. Your firearm represents a significant investment: keep it safe!
