Units and Abbreviations

ka = thousands of years ago, e.g. 10 ka = "10,000 years ago"

ma= millions of years ago, e.g. 10 ma = "10,000,000 years ago"

These are abbreviations most often seen in AAH literature, or ones I use frequently. To find an abbreviation that begins with a certain letter, do a local search using "Ctrl-F" and type in your letter followed by an asterisk (*)

AD = "after Death"; same as 'BC' but 'after'; see 'BC', 'BP', and 'BCE'

*B*

BC = "before Christ"; a designation referring to the change in the world "before Christ"; see 'AD', 'BP', and 'BCE'

BCE = "before common era"; a designation referring to "before the present time"; see 'AD', 'BC', and 'BP'

BP = "before present"; a designation referring to "before the present time"; see 'AD', 'BC', and 'BCE'

MA = Mesoamerica; aka Mexico and Central America

MP = Mesopotamia; area surrounding the Euphrates and Tigris rivers

MVC = Monte Verde, Chile'; the one site which contradicts the classic explanation of migration from Asia/Syberia into NA

nA = native American; represents over 200 tribes which were distributed throughout NA prior to the colonization by Europeans

NA = North America; aka the United States of America
