When you gain excessive weight, you become slow and sluggish in your daily activities. This leads to lack of proper exercise and unhealthy dieting habits destroying our physical and mental health.

The best way to maintain ideal weight is to know how much obesity is dangerous for our health and taking preventive care to avoid it. Obesity affects all parts and organs of our body and results in various serious ailments. Among them, the four most common ailments or side effects are described here.

1: High Blood Pressure:

The fat stored under different areas of an obese person requires oxygen and blood to stay alive. This means our heart needs to pump more blood to provide oxygen to this stored fat. The large amount of fat accumulated in our arteries make them narrower thus making it harder for our heart to properly supply oxygen and to all parts of the body.

When the heart works harder, it raises the blood pressure which can result in clotting in the blood, strokes and heart attacks.

2: Poor Lung Function:

The fat of an obese person is not only stored under the skin but it also surrounds the organs inside the body. This excessive fat around the lungs results in their poor function affecting badly on our breathing. Adipose tissue stored around the lungs decreases the capacity of lungs to inhale oxygen and supply it properly to all blood vessels.

This poor ventilation can result in obstructive sleep apnea, breathing failure and several other fatal respiratory diseases.

3: Damaged Skin:

A lot of fat under the skin plays a significant role in damaging its health and appearance. It destroys the elasticity of skin making it prone to several severe skin infections. The skin starts to look lose and sagging bringing the ugly stretch marks for lifetime. The veins don’t work properly which can also lead to ulcers especially around the ankles.

The hormonal changes in obese people can also result in swelling, discoloration of skin. It can also cause irritation and soreness and redness on the skin.

4: Spikes in Sugar Level:

You may know around 80-90% of overweight or obese people suffer from most serious type of diabetes (type 2 Diabetes). A lot of fat accumulated under the skin, around the organs and into the arteries and veins of an obese person makes him prone to develop insulin resistance, a condition in which the insulin is produced in the body but it does not get absorbed in cells. This unabsorbed glucose remains in the blood and leads to severe conditions of diabetes.

If you are already diabetic and you are not able to control your blood sugar level, the condition can result in kidney failure, high bad cholesterol and even blindness.
