Russian is spoken by 260 million people. This includes some 160 million native speakers and some 100 million who speak it as a second language. Many of those who speak Russian as a second language live in former Soviet republics of the Baltic, Caucasus, and Central Asia.
Over 28% of the world's scientific literature is produced in Russian.
