Choreographer

The Focus on my term paper involves the job that I have researched and studied.  The job that my paper will cover in this term paper would be the job as a Choreographer.  Many people do not know that Choreographers can get jobs.  Although in some cases, Choreographers must be good and must have lots of creativity to create one of the fine art of dancing.  It is also one of the most challenging jobs out there because it is competitive. There are few jobs to be a choreographer and you must really want it in order to have it.  This term paper will cover the career of a choreographer and the training needed to  become a full fledged choreographer.

Choreographers are creative people that create dance routines and teach them to their dancers.  Many choreographers create new dances and new visions of traditional dances.  A big part of choreography is the rehearsals.  Choreographers need to work very closely with dancers but usually choreographers are dancers themselves.  They take dance classes to maintain their ability; they revise the dance routines until they approach a final version.  They also research a story line to get information that may help their dance routines.  Creating dance routines, choreographers audition dancers and have assistance teach dancers a routine.  They create dance routines for ballet, musicals, jazz, hip-hop, street funk, pointe and lyrical music.  Besides that, choreographers coordinate music with music directors.  They train, exercise and attend dance classes to maintain ability, fitness and expertise (“Choreographers”).  In conclusion, choreographers are creative dancers whose responsibilities focus on new and traditional dances.      It is important for choreographers to meet many physical demands.  Choreographers coordinate several parts of the body, the arms and legs while the body is moving to help keep and regain the body’s balance.  They do exercises that bend, stretch, twist and reach out stomach and lower back muscles to support body for long periods without getting tired.  They also must be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.  Choreographers must use muscles for extended periods without getting tired.  They move arms and legs quickly and use muscles to lift, push, pull and carry heavy objects to grasp move or assemble small objects.  Besides physical demands, they also focus on the source of sound and ignore others to recognize the difference between them.  Choreographers work indoors but may work out-doors, and they must come in close physical contact with dancers (“Choreographers”).  Choreographers are fit teachers who must have a lot of coordination to become a choreographer.

Choreographers need communication and management skills to be a successful teacher.  They need to express ideas clearly when speaking or writing.  They also need to read and understand work-related materials, new ideas or creative ways to solve problems and to motivate people and have talent.  Choreographers need to create rules and follow guidelines and notice when something is wrong and manage the time of self and others.  Choreographers always work as part of a team of dancers.  They are responsible for the performance of the dancers and responsible for the safety and the health for his/her dancer.  Choreographers need to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work.  They also need to use several methods to learn or teach each other how to do something.  They also must put themselves in his/her dancer’s shoes; they need to imagine how something will look if it is moved around or its parts are rearrange (“Choreographers”).  Choreographers need these skills and abilities to be able to work with their dancers.

Wages for choreographers vary widely.  Choreographers can earn about $3,000 a week for a motion picture job.  They can earn $10,000 for two weeks of work for a television program.  Most choreographers work for small dance companies and earn lower wages.  Benefits vary by employer.  Choreographers who work full time for large dance companies may receive benefits, which include sick leave, paid vacation and health insurance.  Choreographers that are self-employed must provide their own health insurance (“Choreographers”).  Chorographers must work hard and do well to get the money they desire.

Choreographers need to undergo much training to be ready to face the hard obstacles that come their way.  Most employers require choreographers to have years of experience.  Employers often hire choreographers based on their reputation or dance skills. Employers also look for choreographers who are able to motivate dancers.  Helpful high school courses are chorus, dance, drama, food, nutrition, and physical education.  In addition, if you want to run a business then you should consider taking accounting, entrepreneurship and introduction to business.  Advancements are often working on larger production or with better-known groups.  Some choreographers become dance teachers that may need a college degree (“Choreographers”).  The choreography field is highly competitive.  There will be more job seekers then job openings, so only the most talented choreographers will find jobs.

Many different colleges offer dance elective as a course, the following colleges are, New York Juilliard, University of Manoa and University of Nevada Las Vegas.  Although, only two of the colleges listed does not offer dance courses it has other courses that may help me with my career as a choreographer.  Leaving Juilliard wide open because they have a major in dance courses.

New York Juilliard of dance, drama and music was founded as a musical art academy in America to rival the European conservatories.  Its location is in Lincoln Center for performing Arts, in the heart of New York City. The School is located on the northwest corner of Broadway and West 65th Street (“Directions to Juilliard”).  The Admission policy is all applicants must perform in person for members of the faculty according to the requirements in their respective departments.  The tuition for the year is $27,150.  Adding on a room and board for single and double will cost: $40,560 for single and double would be $37,890. Books, supplies and personal expenses would come out to $3,940. Grand total with the whole package would be $41,830 for the double and single would be $44,500.  The courses of study are broken down to divisions that you can enter.  The divisions include Dance division, Drama division, Music division and Interdivisional Liberal arts (“College Division”).  Some interesting facts about Juilliard is it’s a school for students who are talented and further harness their dedication of becoming who they want to be and learning the passion within themselves to move other audiences (“The Juilliard School”).

University at Manoa, which is located in Honolulu Manoa valley on the island of Oahu.  University of Hawaii at Manoa is a flagship campus of the university system, the states sole public system university.  Admission policy is must complete the system admission application form before deadline.  Submit your SAT1 or ACT test scores and must bring an application fee of $50.00 nonrefundable.  The tuition for UH would depend on how many credits you want to get, with also the hours you enroll.  If you get one credit, it will go with the first tuition price, but if you go and get more credits the cost from the first credit will go up.  The course of study at UH Manoa is arts, science, social science, natural science engineering etc.  Some interesting facts about UH is 20,600 students are enrolled and offers eighty seven different bachelors degree, eighty seven different masters degree and fifty one doctorates (“University At Manoa”).

Last, is University of Nevada Las Vegas.  UNLV is located in the southern tip of Nevada in dessert valley surrounded by mountains.  The interesting facts are that there are more than 28,000 students and more than 3,300 faculty and staff.  The admission policy is all applications is met before deadline and attend high school or graduated in high school and have not completed any college coursework by the time you enter the school (“Admission Information”).  The tuition fee for UNLV is for undergraduate would cost $116.75 per credit and graduates costs would be $172.25 for graduates.  It also depends on the resident and non-resident students and how many credits they earn.  For the course of study, UNLV has almost the same courses offered to students.  The courses are business, education, engineering, fine arts, health science, liberal arts, and science.  Some interesting facts about this college is more than 28,000 students enrolled and 3,300 faculty and staff. In addition, twenty different intramural sports or sixteen different sports, free internet of charge and this college is known for their low crime rate (“University of Nevada Las Vegas”).  In conclusion the three colleges listed was about what you can take if they don’t offer a dance course and one that will supply anything you need to become a choreographer.  For the short-term goal, it would be easy to take the two colleges that offer other subjects besides a dance course because it could be a big step of coming close to your goal in a few months.  The long-term goal would be New York Juilliard because you can find many things on dancing where they help you discipline yourself on becoming a good dancer with a passion also because you need a four-year course to be able to graduate from a dance division.

 Richard’s Almanak Epigrams

Richard’s Almanack was written from 1732 to 1758. Created the epigrams was no other than Benjamin Franklin. In Richard’s epigrams on line thirteen the epigram “When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water.” Explains about where when something that wasn’t cherished or cared for from the past and when its gone or empty people will start cherishing and caring for something that was used to be there. Another example in this situation would be if you have three dogs and not a lot of people pay attention to it that the three dogs runs away and when its gone people would be noticing where they went and why. Another epigram would be on line ten. The epigram “god helps them that helps themselves.” It means that when you look deep inside yourself and have the confident of doing something yourself without help. Only will you know that god will be there to help you and guide you through your obstacle. Another is it could be you must do it yourself and no one else because god wont help those who don’t look and have the confidents to do make it. Another epigram would be line one where it says, “He that cannot obey cannot command.” It means that person cannot respect nor do what is told he cannot do the same to other people. On line eighteen, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” This epigram means when your friend needs help from you, you can be sure that it’s a true friend because your friend is going to you for advice.
