How to Cut and Assemble Your Own Acrylic Display Stands

Acrylic display stands have been recognized as a better substitute for glass stands. Not only do they have the same visual effect, they are cheaper and more durable, too.

Getting your own acrylic display stands does not mean you have to look for one that you can readily buy in furniture stores. You can cut and out together your own stand so that it could perfectly suit the measurements and shape that you need.

If you want to cut and assemble your own acrylic furniture by hand, here are the materials you will need:

- A design for your acrylic display stand or acrylic display shelves

- Sheets of acrylic

- Measuring tape

- Ruler

- Safety glasses

- Table saw or glass cutter

- Sand paper

- Acrylic glue

If you have already assembled all these materials and are ready to start on your project, follow these steps:

Step 1

Place the acrylic on a flat surface and measure it to check if it is the size you need.  Then, draw the shape of the acrylic that you want to cut using the ruler, measuring tape, and pencils. Make sure to keep your line straight.

Step 2

Cut along the lines you marked on the glass with the blade of your choice. A table saw would be perfect for bigger sizes, while a glass cutter would do just fine for smaller ones. Make sure that the blades you are using are sharp to avoid chipping.

Step 3

If chipping does occur, change your blade to a sharper one.

Step 4

Using the sandpaper, gently smooth out the edges of the acrylic if necessary.

Step 5

Use acrylic glue to hold the different pieces of acrylic that you have cut together, following your desired design of an acrylic display stand or acrylic display shelves.

When cutting acrylic, do not forget to practice safety precautions. Wear the goggles during the entire operation, especially when you are already on the process of cutting the acrylic. You may also wear gloves to minimize the risk of cutting yourself or putting on too much glue on your hands.

If you want to create more complicated projects with acrylic, more powerful tools might be needed. It would be wise to master the art of putting together simple things first before venturing into the more complicated items.

Creating your own acrylic display stands or acrylic display shelves is a very quick and easy project to make. It can even be a binding activity for fathers and sons. Just make sure to be very careful when doing so, and do not hesitate to call on the help of professionals when the need arises.
