The family readiness group of A Co FSC 224 Engineer Battalion is currently in the process of working on a few major events.
We are going to be doing a couple of fundraisers. Please check the fundraiser link for details on the 224 Engineer Battalion baskets we will be selling.
We still need to arrange a visit to Blank Children't Hospital. Some of our soldiers visited with the children, playing games, and taking them some goodies at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in November. Any soldiers who are interested in visiting Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines need to contact me as soon as possible so we can get this visit arranged.
Our Christmas party was quite a hit. We gave away over $7500.00 in items donated for the Christmas party raffle. We ended up with a nice turnout of families. I believe there was somewhere between 150 and 200 people at the Christmas Party. I want to thank all of you for your support and hope you enjoyed the afternoon!
We are in the process of trying to get tickets to either a Chicago Cubs baseball game and/or a Minnesota Timberwolves basketball game for the kids. Details will be updated as we know more.
The FRG has started working on details for the family picnic. The picnic will be held on Saturday, August 1st, 2009 at Rathbun Lake. We have reserved the Island View Group Picnic Shelter near the beach. We will have our own playground and sand volleyball area right next to the picnic area for our use. We are working on incorporating the Annual Summer Splash that is held at Rathbun into our Family Picnic. Spouses and children can plan to attend between 12 and 1 when we will take the children to play some of the games that are put on by Summer Splash. The soldiers will be released between 3:30 and 4 to join their families and friends and we will then have the picnic. The families will have full access to the beach as well as multiple activities going on throughout the day. That evening, Summer Splash puts on a concert with multiple bands for anyone who would like to stay. For those families and soldiers who would like to spend the night, their are camping facilities (please book early, they will fill up quickly), cabins, the Honey Creek Resort at Rathbun, as well as three motels in Centerville. This looks to be a fun and exciting day to spend with your families, your soldiers, and the FRG. Please plan to attend.
