I love to listen to music and I’m a budding amateur DJ, I have to travel around a lot to DJ competitions and gigs. I chose these headphones after looking all over the internet, mostly through DJ forums, the name ‘Ultrasone’ came up a fair amount, and people were praising their ideas and products. After looking at Ultrasone’s wide range of products I finally decided on the awesome DJ 1 headphones.
I was looking for a set of headphones that folded, didn’t weigh much, looked nice but mainly I wanted high quality sound that I could use for my gigs and comps. The DJ 1 covered all the bases with more to give. The ear pieces fold up into the head band to protect the, nearly indestructible, 50mm Mylar, you can fold just one of the ear pieces up for single ear mixing so you don’t get the audiences sound mixing with your sound. They even come with a carry bag to store them in, handy! I haven’t actually weighed them myself but they are listed at weighing only 10 ounces, not including the cord, which is 39” when un-coiled, always good to have a lengthy cord for gigs, the cord is finished with a 1/8th inch gold plated plug and a screw on adaptor for hi-fis and mixers. With simple styling in black and silver they definitely look good.
As for the sound, they use ‘s-logic’, a system that means the sound isn’t shot straight down your ear canal, it is bounced around your entire ear so you get real three dimensional sound, s-logic also means you can hear your music at lower levels, up to 4 dB for the same perceived sound. This means that it really sounds like the music your listening to sounds like its really in the room, not from your headphones! Ultrasone also produced a special ‘MU’ metal shielding to reduce the magnetic radiation that all drivers produce but up to 98%!
All in all I think you will have to double take the sound, and all around, quality of the DJ 1 headphones, especially for the price. Definitely recommended.
