Planetside Squad Strategies

Welcome to my theories on Squad based combat in Planetside. I believe that to destroy our enemies we must work in unison to achieve a common goal.

Our first and foremost goal is one of entertainment. Let’s face it – we are all paying customers for a fun pass time. If the outfit/squad is too regimented no one has fun and tends to be more a chore than fun. Things should be enjoyable whenever possible.

The combination I have in mind reminds me of the Roman Centurion Legions – with a twist; The Main solders are up front attacking, with more Equally strong soldiers behind them, waiting. Behind them are two support units to fix and heal when necessary. Behind them are two assault solider/hackers – to nicely round out the group, 1 scout is a necessity to the group for recon and AMS deployment.

The main group moves steadily forward toward the CC making sure they go in a fashion as to not easily get run over. When a front man gets killed two things occur. A man from the second rank moves forward to take his place and, the group moves forward enough so the dead man is in the center of the group. The medics immediately begin to revive and repair all damage done to the solider. Once that man has been fixed he is to take the secondary spot the previous man had.

The Infiltrators are what binds the group and makes it work to perfection. Their job is to scout out the size of the enemy, direction, area of concentration. Once that information is obtained, the main attack group can now ascertain the best area of attack. The scout is now to set up at least one AMS unit in an obscure position and protected it via Mines, Motion Detectors and Turrets. Then is to cause a disturbance on the other side of where the main group is to move.

This is the minimum Certs in mind for the group:

Heavy Assault Commando x 4

- Max Cycler x 3, Marauder x 1, - Reinforced Exosuit - Medium Assault - Heavy Assault - Anti-Vehicle Total = 15 Certs

Support Units x 2

- Advanced Medic - Engineering - Marauder - Reinforced Exosuit - Medium Assault Total = 16 Certs

Assault Hacker Commando x 2

- Advanced Hacker - Medium Assault - Anti-Vehicle - Reinforced Exosuit - Marauder x 1 - Liberator x1 Total = 16 Certs

Cloaked Hacker Scout x 1

- Infiltration Suit - Advanced Hacker - AMS - Mosquito/Reaver - Lightning (optional) - Or Combat Engineer Total = 15 – 18 Certs

Cloaked Medic/Combat Engineer

- Advanced Medic - Combat Engineer - Infiltration Suit - AMS Total =14 Certs

Tactics

The Main concept behind all formations is to protect the support units. If all support units are killed then the entire unit can then also die. During attack and defense the support units are key to the survival of the entire unit, this cannot be stressed enough. The Infiltration medic is our ace in the hole. If the enemy manages to take out both main support medics, are still pushing them back our infiltration medic can revive the other medics and were still in the game. If the group gets run over by something, our infiltration medic is there to bring us back. He also assists with immediate surroundings information.

In regard to time, healing our men in the field as opposed to respawning and walking will give us a definitive advantage over our enemies. With this plan we are able to save a vast amount of time in respawn and walking times plus were still in the battle.

I must stress that Voice Communication is a must for all members in the squad. If you don’t have a mic, at least join the voice conference to listen in on the conversation so you can get fast info from the commander and/or unit.

Finally, I would like to end with one word – Practice. Repetition is the mother of all skill, so I would suggest the best thing to do is to go out and do it, if this doesn’t work for you at first, Great! Do it again! Figure out what is working and what isn’t. Change it. Play with it. Fine-tune it so it is a work of perfection for your squad. The only thing that doesn’t change in this world is change itself, so change with world around you. The people who can change the fastest wins!
