My Trike Building Page 2

  • Brake Pedals and Master Cylinder's

This shows the brake pedal assembly and master cylinder, using brake pads from Kuryakyn, with home made pedals. I have since changed to standard Harley pedals. Clutch is hydraulic also. I also converted the clutch to cable since the hydraulics kept eating up slave cylinders. The front bar is make from a Suzuki GS1000 case guard, modified to fit front of trike frame. This will be chromed at a later date. The floorboards are made by Tour Ease, and work out real well.

  • Fat Bob Tanks and Dash

The tanks are a new set of 5 gallon, Fat Bobs with aircraft caps. After completion I decided I would not use aircraft caps again, to hard to paint with out chipping the edges of the tank around the filler. I have since installed a set of Paint Savers. The dash is a aftermarket unit that will be drilled to house the Tack, Oil Pressure Gauge, and Volt Meter. The picture also show's a set of 6" round risers, I changed them as you will see in the final pictures to a set of Badlands 8" square pullbacks. Extended the handlebars and matched the square tubing of the frame. The handlebars will be changed to "Z-Bar's"

  • Rear Fenders, Trunk, Fuel Tank and Engine

You can see the rear fender design in this picture, when I got them ready for paint I bondo'ed them to give the edges contour. I used heavy wall 1" square tubing, it has a 1/8" wall thickness, to construct the fender mounts and they are rock solid. Not so rock solid as I found out last year, 2011. The trunk is mounted with the 11 gallon fuel tank under it. With the Fat Bobs and this tank I have a fuel capacity of 16 Gallon's. I can guarantee that my rear will get tired before I run out of fuel. Even at 25 mpg I will have a range of 400 miles.

  • Priming the Fender's

The fenders and tanks are mounted on a jig I built so that they could be painted with primer in preparation to taking them to my friend Bob Bell for final painting. Like my fancy paint booth.

  • Frame is Finally in Paint

The frame was painted first to allow assembly while the tins were being painted. A friend of mine, Bob Bell from Chico, California helped me paint it. He did the final color spraying, while I did the bondo, primer and sanding. You know the "GRUNT" work. But if you don't have good prep the final paint wont be good. The paint is Sherwin Williams Lemon Yellow.

  • Tins are Painted

The rear fenders and tank are painted two tone Lemon Yellow and White, with Pewter flames with purple tips. Then they were shot with 2 coats of clear with violet pearl and then two more coats of clear.

This is Bob Bell, the master paint shooter.
