Here is a cool thing I redid on photoshop a while ago. I did not draw the original image I found online some time ago and can't remember where. Credits to whoever they belong to. All other effects were done by me using Photoshop.

The image is actually made up of 7 layers of coloring, shading, and editing. Here is the original source image I used to make this final image. (40% of original size)

The first thing I did was to recolor the image. I used a transparent layer to simply draw over the original lines and shading.

Next I added some rough shading to areas where I wanted to highten the contrast to better suit the new color scheme. This was done in another layer also semi-transparent.

After the rough shading I smoothed it out by adding some lighter color of gray shading around the darker shading areas.

I also wanted to add a background to the image so I opened another window of photoshop and scribbled some thick black lines, a few purple lines, and some dark blue lines untill all the white area was covered. I smoothed the image and blurred the edges together. Then I applied a few filters such as an accent edges and a small ripple effect. I brightened the image a bit and upped the contrast to bring out the different colors used.

After making the background I merged it with the original image using paint and then manually coloring in the white areas left over on photoshop. This is always the longest and most uneventfull part of merging images. The end result looked like this:

Now to integrate the wraith into the background image I applied a bright light effect coming from the upper left corner to help accent the shadows I added earlier. Although similar to the final image, this created some odd changes in color on most of the cloak which I would have to fix.

Using a program called Photocenter similar to photoshop with a few different options for filters I used a brush with a blur effect to make transitions between color and shading more natural. Tadah, complete.
