Q: What is ozone?

A: Ozone is active oxygen O3. It occurs naturally in the earths atmosphere to protect us from the sun's harmful rays.

Q: What are some uses of Ozone?

A: Some common uses is drinking water purification, waste water purification, air purification, pool and spa water purification, and now purification of mikveh water.

Q: How long has ozone used to purify water?

A: Since the late 1880's.

Q: How long has Ozone been used to purify pool and spa water and removed odors from the air?

A: Over 50 years.

Q: How does ozone, used for  purification, affect the air we breathe?

A: The amount of ozone produced by an Ozone Generator is insignificant to normal atmosphere we live in. Excess ozone quickly converts back to oxygen. Note: DO NOT Breathe concentrated ozone.

Q: Is ozone the same "SMOG?"

A: No! "Smog" is air pollution created by combustion polluters. While smog contains small amounts of ozone, it is largely composed of harmful chemicals , and as such contributes to the damage of the "ozone layer."

Q: If  I use ozone in my mikveh, will I help to replenish the "ozone layer?"

A: No. It takes such a tiny amount of ozone to effectively purify water that any molecules breaking free into the air are insignificant.

Q: Will ozone hurt me?

A: No! In the quantities necessary to be effective, ozone is very gentle to humans and equipment in the water.

Q: Does Ozone have any odor?

A: Yes. Depending on the con concentration,  the odor ranges from slightly sweet to moderately antiseptic.

Q: Will ozone kill bacteria?

A: Yes. It is one of the most effective, complete bactericides of all Earth's measurable elements.

Q: How is ozone different from chlorine.

A: In the quantities needed for water purification, it has no noticeable odor, taste, or color. It is not irritating to humans or equipment. Ozone purifies water and air very quickly and efficiently 3,000 times faster than chlorine. Ozone leaves no by-product except for pure oxygen. In contrast, chlorine leaves a chemical by-product called hydrochloric acid and additional salts in water application.

Q: Will ozone kill viruses?

A: Yes. Ozone kills virtually all known forms of viruses in water and air .

Q: Will ozone reduce scum/foam lines in  mikveh?

A: The scum lines will be greatly reduced or eliminated.

Q: How is ozone produced?

A:  Ozone can be produced in a number of different ways.  However, the most common method is via untraviolet light generation and corona discharge modules.

Q: How does the corona discharge model work?

A: The ozone module converts oxygen (O2) molecules into active oxygen ozone (O3) molecules.  This all occurs instantly inside the ozone chamber in the ozone generator.

Q: Can ozone damage my mikveh equipment?

A: No.  In fact it is very gentle to mikveh equipment.  Applied properly, ozone is more gentle than any other water purifier in existence.

Q: Can the ozone in my mikveh irritate skin or eyes like chlorine?

A: No!  Ozone is very gentle to the skin and eyes.

Q: How long will ozone last in my mikveh water?

A: Scientific theory states that ozone has a half life of about 22 minutes in water.  However, recent tests have proven that a measurable residual can be found after several hours in clean water.

Q: Will water temperature affect ozone?

A: Wide variations in mikveh water temperature will affect how well the ozone works.  An ozone generator should be designed and sized for maximum water temperature and usage.

Q: Will ozone affect my pH?

A: Ozone is pH neutral.  It will not adversely affect the pH.

Q: Do I still have to filter the water as often?

A: Even without a filter, it is effective against all bacteria and viruses.
