Topic: city riding/and the bike

Mike the bike ( cycling terms and their definition)

An easy one to start with would be the word "Roadie".This would be a person male or female who rides a road bike.

Another word is "Drops"which describe racing style handle bars on road bikes or the bikes that roadies ride.(Not all Roadies ride drop bars though).

More words like "chunky" and "pie" don't describe heavy people and food, rather the gear on the bike "chunky" describe a racing type gear and a "pie" would be a hill climbing gear and resembles a pie because it's the opposite.

I have all kinds a terms, words, phrases . It could be a language of its own. Picture this you are riding along King Street, Queen street, or any main street in Toronto and as you ride the people you see and the situations you incounter, all have there own special name or tag.

An easy example would be the word "Cabie", Most people know it means a taxi or taxi car driver.

I would like to introduce the word "sheild". This word can describe a person, a car, or some objects. Its an action word most if the time. Picture this you are riding along an object like the ones I mentioned comes in between you and a car and prevents the car from hitting you.
Sheilds protect us like in Star trek, sheids would go up during a scary times, and offer protections from the assault.
During the Gulf war there was another type of sheild called the "Hunam sheild"
So sheilds protect things, so when you ride, sometimes you require protection.
This is a very useful tool when trying to get around very fast, If someone blocks, on come traffic for you then thats one less calculation you have to make.
Street cars make great"sheilds"Their sizes and the fact that they are very predictable.Don't get lazy and take things for granted, you have to cosentrate more when you ride like this. Timing plays an important roll since many of the objects which will be "sheilding" you are infact moving.
