My husband's other love.....

I have been with my husband, Glenn Bushman, for 15 years. I have watched his love of Nascar racing evolve over the years. About 4 years ago, he was introduced to the owner of Smitty's Towing in Goleta, California. Now it just so happens that this owner, Greg Voigt, is also a driver in the Nascar Featherlite Southwest Series and my husband thought he had died and went to heaven.

Glenn immediately struck up a friendship with Greg and before I knew what hit me, he was the "jackman" on the pit crew of a race car. Little did I know....

Glenn spends his weekends during race season with the team preparing Greg for upcoming races. If a race is scheduled, he goes by the shop during the week and helps the team work on the car, getting it ready for the race. A race usually consumes most of the weekend and it sparks an excitement in him that is to the core.

The team loads the car up, gathers their toolboxes, washes their uniforms, and off they go on Friday morning to the scheduled destination. Here is a link to view the race schedule

All of the guys on the race team share Greg's interest and each of them take pride in what they do. My husband is responsible for jacking the car up during the pit stops so each member of the crew can do their job. Record time pit stops are very important during a race and there are competitions that the pit crews take part in to be better than the next team.

Greg has hand picked his team and they equally share in Greg's excitement during race season. Each race they evaluate things that worked for them, that could have made a race better, and what they can do to improve before the next race.

These guys work hard at making the car run better week by week. Not only is the mechanical part important, but the aesthetics of the car are part of the pride. Click on the link view Greg's Driver Card.

Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring Driving Stats

As of yet, I have not been able to join the wives and girlfriends of the Nascar Featherweight Southwest Series crew. I am planning to join the pilgramage to each race once I have finished my Spring 2003 semester at Santa Barbara City College. For now I have to just enjoy the excitement at the track through breaktime phone calls on race day, stories that come home, and the pictures that are taken at the track. Here are some of the pictures from the Nascar 2002 series.
