Welcome to my very first on-site toy review! Today we'll be going over Spy Monkey Creations weapons for your Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics figures. The good folks at Spy Monkey were kind enough to send me some of their amazing weapons and let me be the first to tell you, these are top-notch quality products. Each weapon/shield/etc is hand cast, painted, and finished. Nothing is mass-produced and these should be considered collectible custom weapons due to the fact you aren't going to find these on store shelves.
Sculpt
Right off the bat you'll notice the attention to detail and design. The Master Blade of the Empyrean fits in with Zodac's theme, the large 'W' nicely sculpted on the hilt. The blade has raised grooves running down it and really lends itself to looking like a mystical weapon of war. Their Hero and Villain shields are no different, all excellent sculpts, nice and round with pronounced rivets. But what really shines here is the big, shiny gem in the middle, unique to each shield! Skeletor and He-Man both have shields that match their color scheme and there's even one styled for Tri-Clops, Fakor, etc.
Paint/color
What's painted on the weapons depends on which one you purchase and is usually on the hilts, a very durable paint that isn't going to rub off. The base plastic of each weapon is tinted in a variety of ways and most feature a metallic effect. However the Master Blades of the Empyreans here have reflective, glittery specks embedded in the plastic which looks really great in the light! Some of the weapons like the Blade of the Demon King are actually cast in glow-in-the-dark plastic which really glows brightly. There's quite a variety to choose from in their store.
Durability
These aren't flimsy weapons. I haven't had them break either, they feel like solid plastic and should hold up well under play. Since Spy Monkey hand-casts each weapon they have great quality control over what you're getting and I haven't heard of anyone getting anything less than a perfect item. For you customizers out there, yes, you can customize them! The plastic can be drilled, glued, and of course painted. I'm already making some scythes out of the Witching Axe and Demon Blades, and I'm sure you can do some pretty neat stuff to the shields as well. For all of you who make custom He-Man figures, these weapons would be the perfect additions to them!
Final Decision
Five stars across the board! Spy Monkey really has a nice product here. Not only do they have MotU weapons but also cast translucent green blasts/beams for your DC Universe Green Lantern Corps, Glyos System heads/weapons, and other neat stuff.
