ACTIVITIES

Welcome Back

We hope that everyone had a good break, and are now ready for an exciting year with lots of activities and challenges to celebrate our 10th Anniversary.

03/C01 – DofE training

16th & 30th Jan +13th & 27th Feb +

13th & 27th March + 10th & 24th April + 15th May + 05th & 19th June

There will be eleven training sessions to prepare those wanting to do their Assessed Expedition which is being planned for the 21st 22nd June 03.  During these sessions we will need to cover all aspects of Campcraft and Navigation Skills as well as completely plan the main expedition.

In addition to these session there will be two practice weekends (15th 16th March) (11th 13th April) to do a progress check on our abilities and to see if we need to increase the evening training sessions

Note: The main Expedition paperwork must be completed by the 10th April 03 so the route can be checked and an Assessor can be allocated for the venture.

It is important to remember that each team must have between four and seven members, so if you know anyone who is interested in doing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or is doing the Award and wants to complete the Expedition Section before the summer Holidays, you should encourage them to come down to the Open Award Centre

03/A01 – Coral Reef – Sun 09th

0930hrs to 1600hrs

Price £10.00

This will be a fun swimming session, which normally lasts for two hours.  This may be extended if the centre is not busy.  During this activity everyone will be asked to show us their swimming abilities as part of our award scheme, after that the times your own to enjoy the flumes and the different water ways there.

There is a food bar in the centre if you wish to use it; however I would recommend you bring your own.  You will also need a pound coin for the lockers, which will be returned

After the swimming session, if we have time we will be going over to the Local Park / play area (Lookout Woodlands) where you can enjoy the facilities there.  However if it is raining we will be returning to Basingstoke as soon as we finish at Coral Reef, if this happens and we are returning early, everyone will be asked to contact their parents with a revised return time.

Sat 05th April

Once again we are asking for your help.  We need to make this the biggest and best Jumble Sale we have ever had, to do this we need much more Jumble, Bric-a-Brac, toys etc.  We also need adults to help on the day, setting up and running various stalls.  We would also appreciate it, if anyone could donate any cakes etc for the event.  It is our intension to sell bric-a-brac. Toys. Cloths, plus a Coffee Bar selling Tea’s, Coffee’s, Cakes and Soft Drinks.

To make this successful we'll want as much Jumble as possible.  If you and / or your neighbours have anything to give, could you take it to your Unit Officer, or ring Ian to arrange collection.

If you can help on the day please let me know as soon as possible.
