ACTIVITIES
Welcome
Back
We
hope that everyone had a good break, and are now ready for an exciting
year with lots of activities and challenges to celebrate our 10th
Anniversary.
03/C01 – DofE training

There will be eleven
training sessions to prepare those wanting to do their Assessed Expedition
which is being planned for the 21st 22nd June 03.
During these sessions we will need to cover all aspects of
Campcraft and Navigation Skills as well as completely plan the main
expedition.
In addition to these session there will be two practice weekends (15th
16th March) (11th 13th April) to do a
progress check on our abilities and to see if we need to increase the
evening training sessions
Note: The main
Expedition paperwork must be completed by the 10th April 03 so
the route can be checked and an Assessor can be allocated for the venture.
It is important to
remember that each team must have between four and seven members, so if
you know anyone who is interested in doing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
or is doing the Award and wants to complete the Expedition Section before
the summer Holidays, you should encourage them to come down to the Open
Award Centre
03/A01
– Coral Reef – Sun 09th
0930hrs to 1600hrs
Price £10.00
This will be a fun
swimming session, which normally lasts for two hours.
This may be extended if the centre is not busy.
During this activity everyone will be asked to show us their
swimming abilities as part of our award scheme, after that the times your
own to enjoy the flumes and the different water ways there.
There is a food bar in
the centre if you wish to use it; however I would recommend you bring your
own. You will also need a
pound coin for the lockers, which will be returned
After the swimming
session, if we have time we will be going over to the Local Park / play
area (Lookout Woodlands) where you can enjoy the facilities there.
However if it is raining we will be returning to Basingstoke as
soon as we finish at Coral Reef, if this happens and we are returning
early, everyone will be asked to contact their parents with a revised
return time.
Uniform is not required
on this activity
03/A02
– 3 Peeks Centre

03/E01
– Watership Down
Sat
15th to Sun 16th March
Price
£10.00
This will be a practice
Expedition from Basingstoke to Watership Down Activity Centre, where all
participants will need to carry a day sack with their day’s food, water
and emergency kit.
This venture is open to
all members, especially those doing their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in
preparation for their practice Expedition in April.
This Expedition will
also be a sponsored walk. The
sponsor forms will be available from your Unit OC two weeks before the
event and must be brought on the 15th March.
All funds raised and sponsor forms must be returned to your Unit OC
by the 27th March. If
you raise over £25.00 the charge for the venture will be halved, if you
raise over £50.00 the venture will be FREE.
Tents and Cooking
Equipment will be supplied by the Group, if you wish to borrow Sleeping
Bag, Rucksack etc, make sure you write your request on the back of your
booking form
Uniform
will not be required for A.R.C personnel

All parents are invited
to attend our AGM, where you will be able to find out what has been
happening within the Group and meet those who have been working with your
child(ren). We really need your help and support, without which it will be
harder to develop and improve the service we provide.
It could also be a great opportunity to ask questions and find out
how your child(ren) is getting on.

– A.R.C Jumble Sale

Once again we are
asking for your help. We need
to make this the biggest and best Jumble Sale we have ever had, to do this
we need much more Jumble, Bric-a-Brac, toys etc.
We also need adults to help on the day, setting up and running
various stalls. We would also
appreciate it, if anyone could donate any cakes etc for the event.
It is our intension to sell bric-a-brac. Toys. Cloths, plus a
Coffee Bar selling Tea’s, Coffee’s, Cakes and Soft Drinks.
To make this successful
we'll want as much Jumble as possible.
If you and / or your neighbours have anything to give, could you
take it to your Unit Officer, or ring Ian to arrange collection.
If you can help on the
day please let me know as soon as possible.
