Baby Brayden

03/08/01-09/18/03

I can only think of one person,
Who can smile the way you do.
Even though you cannot say so,
I know you love us, as we do you.

The future may be uncertain,
But the past is very clear.
You are our little miracle,
In our hearts you will be held dear.

You will always be near to us,
Although times may be very tough,
Your face will be there smilling,
And that will forever be enough.

Lisa Burnes

Brayden David Berton was born to his loving parents, Marsha and Jason, and his wonderful brothers, Zackery and Sheldon, March 8th 2001.

No one could ever have imagined that a short while after birth Brayden would be rushed from Woodstock to London hospital, where he would live for the first six months of his short, yet amazing life.

Although Brayden did eventually get to go home, he visited the hospital frequently for test. The doctors diagnosed Brayden with a condition known as Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), which sadly ultimately comes down to Cerebral Palsy (CP).

By Brayden’s 1st Birthday he had been to the hospital numerous times. Nevertheless on the day of his Birthday Party he was once again rushed to Children’s Hospital in London, Ontario by his mom together with his Aunt Carly and Lisa. He was kept in Children’s ER for 6 hours before being re-admitted at 2am. He managed to do well for the next while having only scheduled check ups and such.

Sorrowfully on Thursday, September 18th 2003, after 2 and a half years, full of long hard battles, Brayden peacefully passed away. He was laid to rest September 20th, 2003 at Oxford Memorial Cemetery in Woodstock, Ontario.

Brayden will always be in our hearts and our minds. His smile will never be erased from our memory. Although we will miss Brayden we know that he suffers no more, and we hope that he is having fun at the fair with Harley and all the hamsters and fish.

A meeting was held quite far from earth,

"It's time again for another birth".
Said the Angels to the Lord above,
"This special child will need much love".
His progress may seem very slow,
Accomplishments he may not show,
And he'll require extra care,
From the folks he meets way down there.
He may not run or laugh or play,
His thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways he wont adapt,
And he'll be known as handicapped.
So let's be careful where he's sent,
We want his life to be content.
Please,Lord,find the parents who,
Will do a special job for you.
They will not realize right away,
The leading role they're asked to play.
But with this child sent from above,
Comes stronger faith and richer love.
And soon they'll know the privilege given,
In caring for this gift from heaven.
Their precious charge so meek and mild,
Is heavens very special child

God saw you getting tired
When a cure was not to be
So he closed his arms
Around you
And whispered "come to me"
In tears we saw you sinking
We watched you fade away
Our hearts were alomst
Broken
You fought so hard to stay
But when we saw you
Sleeing
So peacefully from pain
We could not wish you back
To suffer that again
So treasure him, lord,
In your garden of rest,
For here on earth he was
One of the best.
