how were womens clothes different compared to the 1950's?
In the 1950's the fashions were such things as the cashmere sweater, poodle skirt, pedal pushers, the scarf and many more things along those lines.
the 1960's were a time of exploring, alot of new things were invented in the 1960s and alot of new things happened. the fashions were begining to change with such things as the mini skirt which was the most popular in the 60's.
In 1964, Rudi Gernreich's topless bathing suit was designed.
Soon after, Gernreich raised the style of skirts 3 inches above the knee.
In London, skirts were much shorter than 3 inches above the knee, and were now being called "mini-skirts." Here, Mary Quant was making Carnaby Street synonymous with fashion. In New York, the "mod" look was just appearing. Bikinis were now being worn on American beaches.
Those who were not into the "mod" look adopted the army and navy surplus clothing. The hippies showed off their independence and creativity with their own handcrafted items. Beads, leather, fringes, bangles, and vests represented the American Indian look. The hippy style tended to transmit signals of peace and love. Each personality had a fitting style of clothing.
one of the most popular models in the 60's was twiggy.
twiggy had her own unique look which made her such a popular model.
twiggy was named the first supermodel ever.
Why did womens fashions change so much?
I think it changed alot because in the 1960's alot more women's rights were coming in and it was a chance for women to speak there mind and dress how they wanted.
women didn't have to wair clothes that were what their mothers wore or what their
husbands wanted them to wair.
like the big trend of the mini-skirt or the bikini, they were starting to wair more of the sort of clothes that we wair today.
"The bikini was invented in 1946, and 20 years later it was a symbol of youth, the sexual revolution, and the carefree beach life"-Lisa's Nostalgia Cafe.
Explain how your topic is related to an important event,
A)By 1966 Mary Quant was producing short waist skimming mini dresses and skirts that were set 6 or 7 inches above the knee. It would not be right to suggest she invented the mini. In 1965 she took the idea from the 1964 designs by Courrèges and liking the shorter styles she made them even shorter for her boutique Bazaar. She is rightly credited with making popular a style that had not taken off when it made its earlier debut.
B)The event effected my topic because... my topic is on fashion and mini skirts had a huge impact on fashion in the 1960's we still wair mini skirts today. i think mini skirts had a big impact on fashion because it was around the time women were getting more rights, and also alot of popular models and famous people, like twiggy, wore mini skirts and mini dresses so teenagers would have thought this was cool.
C)I think the changes in the 1960s have impacted on us today alot, because we all still wair mini skirts today and similar clothing that they wore back then now. I think the trends made in the 1960's will allways be apart of the fashion because 1960's are such a big thing in history.
