St.Barnabas, Apostle, Martyr: Although not one of the Twelve, Barnabas is often called an Apostle, and was certainly a key figure in the early Church, and a companion of St.Paul. His feast day is June 11th, and in ancient England was celebrated by teenage boys parading about, bedecked in roses. These roses first gave rise to Barnabas’ ancient shield - red and white roses on contrasting backgrounds.
