Queen Mum Marny Wills founded the La Tea Da Chapter of the Red Hat Society in Jacksonville, Florida on March 13, 2001 with a luncheon at South Street Grill for 22 like-minded women.

That first year as we grew in number, we enjoyed such monthly outings as a day trip by train to Winter Park for shopping and lunch, a visit to the World Golf Village, a day at the races at the Orange Park Kennel Club with the 7th race named for us, and a weekend at the 1st Florida Gathering of Red Hats in Mount Dora.

As the year unfolded, Marny also appointed a Council of Crones: Vice Queen-Kathryn Bullock; Vice Queen of Saturdays-Kay Moody; Peg Hallam-Princess of Pen and Poem; Terry Meier-Countess of Communications; Diane Frisco-Baroness of Birthday's; Lindle White-Duchess of the Ring A Ding; Jan Touchton-Lady Shutterbug; Mary Lee Gothe-Princess of Public Relations; and Pat Moore-Lady Sew N Sew.

In 2002 the La Tea Da's began the year with a lunch for Queen Renee of the Crimson Glorys of Sioux City, Iowa. February we had lunch at Sterlings and celebrated our first year anniversary at the exclusive University Club overlooking the city from the 27th floor of the Riverplace Tower.

Those having served as Queen of the Month also surprised Marny that day with a champagne ride in a red limousine! (Please, check out our 1st Anniversary Celebration page)

By 2002, membership had grown to over 100. Completing the first half of 2002 will be a short trip on the Skyway Express with lunch at the historical Seminole Club, a St. John's River cruise on the Annabelle Lee, and a casino boat outing from Cape Canaveral in June.
