"Our Youth is Our Future"
This is the history of the Young Marines:
The Young Marines were started by a small group of Marine Corps League members. They formed the Young Marines of Waterbury, Connecticut in the year of 1958.
About two years later in 1960 the unit had swelled to over 300 young males and over 20 adult instructors.
In 1962 more than 1500 males were involved with the Young Marines in about 10 cities, and towns. They were sponsored by the Marine Corps League throughout the state.
On October 17, 1965 an official charter was signed, and the Young Marines were adopted nationally. In 1975, females were finally allowed to join.
In 1995 the Young Marines went international with units in Okinawa, Japan.
Also in the year of 1995, the Kennebec Valley Young Marines were formed.
